This last year was one full of new experiences, growth, challenging fears and self doubt, and becoming a stronger person and artist through it all. I started the year with certain expectations as I'm sure we all do, and exceeded some, but fell short on others. I have learned to stop focusing so much on doing things "the right way," and figure out what works for me. As the new year approaches, I want to encourage you all to evaluate why you are doing the things you are doing and ask yourself if it aligns with your core beliefs, or if you're just going along with what everyone else does. The photos I've included in this blog post are my favorites from this past year. They might not be perfectly in focus or follow all the photography rules, but they make me feel something, and that's why I love them. I've also realized that I have an obsession with black and white photos. :) I am so thankful for the clients who trusted me, and the friends and family who were willing to be vulnerable in front of a camera when I asked them to. I hope you like these photos even a fraction as much as I do. Enjoy!
Michelle is my little sister. Younger than me by nine years, but people often think she's older than me. Despite the age difference, Michelle and I are very close and I love hanging out with her. She also shares my love for photography, so we always try to go out and do a fun shoot when we're together. The first set of pictures is from our shoot with my friend Bekah Hastings. If you want to check out the pictures of Bekah, click here. The second set we took at Top of the World in Manhattan, KS. Check them out and let me know what you think!
I've known Bekah for most of my life and I can tell you that she is one-of-a-kind. She is funny, kind, smart, musically-inclined, and an insanely talented artist. She also looks like a Native American princess, wouldn't you agree? I'm super grateful that I got to spend some time with her over the summer doing one of our favorite things - taking photos. I had so much fun catching up and trying new things creatively. Bekah also let me borrow her 50mm lens, which was awesome and I think might just be my next camera-related purchase. Feel free to check out some shots of my stunning friend below!
My sister and brother-in-law agreed to model for me while we were on family vacation in Colorado, and I'm so glad they did! I am so excited with how the pictures turned out and had a hard time narrowing down my favorites. They are such a beautiful couple inside and out and I am proud to call them family. :) Check out some of my favorite photos from the session below!
My friend Michelle came down to Virginia during her Spring Break in March and graciously agreed to model for me. Despite the weather being absolutely miserable (30s and VERY windy), we had a lot of fun. Even though Michelle claims not to know a thing about modeling, the pictures fooled me! Here are some of my favorites from our afternoon of shooting, enjoy!
